War
Public Library Project
As most of
you know, the War Public Library was recently destroyed by fire. Our
classmate there, Teresa Stutso Jewell, has posted a
message to the comments page and has received much support from the Alumni
groups, but I wanted to make sure this message was in a place where no one
would miss it.
The War Public Library needs your support.
If each of us sent only one book that would be
over 1100 books! If we each sent 2 books, that's a library!
Let's make them good ones! Since they are already receiving
books, perhaps the best idea would be to contact Francis Blankenship, the
librarian, and find out what they need (after all, we wouldn't want
a library with 104 copies of Moby Dick, even if it is a classic!)
Or
perhaps you would like to make a more personal contribution. If so, you
have the rare opportunity to give something special of yourself to the
town of War. For each of us there's a book with special meaning, a
book that changed our thinking and thus our lives, a book with a
message that we would like to share with the world, perhaps a message that
would make the world a better place...(and no, I'm not talking about THE
Book...hopefully everyone already has a copy of that one.) I'm
talking about that book that lifted us above our experience, took us
beyond the moment, carried us to distant places or introduced us to
new people or ideas. Think of it as a message in a
bottle that you would like to send to the young people of War.
If you could recommend ONE book to today's youth, what would it be???
Well, put it in the mail!!
Or
perhaps you would prefer to make a financial contribution. I'm sure the
library may need more than just books. Contact the library at the
following address...Francis Blankenship should be able to guide you in
your in the most appropriate and useful donation. I will try to get
an email address where she can be contacted and post it here. Until
then we have on the "snail" mail address and phone numbers
listed below.
Here's Teresa message:

UPDATE
:
Each of
you should feel free to respond to our visitors and let them know that we
appreciate their kind comments and show them some West Virginia
hospitality. When you enter the home of a West Virginian, you are
treated like family and not a visitor.
We welcome
each of you to our "home"!
Big Creek
High School currently does not have a homepage, so our links to it will
connect you to a site maintained by the American Schools Directory which
maintains a database of all schools in the US. The data may not be
current at this site. We will re-establish links with Big Creek as
soon as their site is reconstructed. We plan to offer Big Creek's
students space at this website to create and maintain their own pages.
More on this soon.
Our
Guestbook and Comments page have been separated into a 1998, 1999 and 2000
pages. By splitting the pages by year each section will load faster.
I left links on both pages to reach the older sections.
I have added several new forms to the site.
First, the Faculty
Login form will allow BCHS faculty members to add
their information to the Faculty
page.
Next, a Visitor
Comment page. This will allow non-Owls to comment about this
site and Big Creek. The form will add these to our message
page. Many have requested this addition lately.
Home Town Owls
If you are looking for
friends, relatives or classmates that may still reside in one of the
McDowell County communities, please post your request to the Comments
section and specifically mention the community as well as the individual's
name and age or graduating class, along with nicknames or maiden names and
their last known address, if available. We have several
volunteers from each of the old communities that will try to assist you in
locating anyone who still lives in the area.
I've just added several
new additions to the Class
Reps page . If you would like to be a contact for
your class follow the link on the Class
Reps page. I am working on having this information also posted to
the Class Listing by year pages. More on that later.
If you have sent
your contact information in but don't see it listed on the page, please
resend it. I may have lost it while transferring files to create the
new site. I maintain this site in my spare time (such as it is) and
occassionally things don't get updated as fast as we all would like.
Like all websites, this site is constantly under construction, being
modified to adapt to the changes inherent with the Internet. We now
have hundreds of Alumni signed in and currently receive about 70 emails
per week from Owls who need information modified on their profiles or have
questions about how to use this site.
We are still in the
process of locating fellow classmates and posting their information on
these pages. If this is your first visit to our site, please click here to
login. This form will
add your information to our Class
Listings and will create your personal profile page. The profiles
provide vital information to any old classmates who are trying to locate
you.
Please click the Refresh or Reload button when you load these pages since
the content is changing on a daily basis. Bookmark this page and check for
updates each time you are online.
